CAROLINE'S JEWELRY WITH A PAST

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can be called a genuine Antique?
A genuine antique is any item that is 100 years old or older. When you date antique jewelry, that means an item must be made prior to, or around 1900. In the past several years, the demand for antique jewelry has outstripped the supply and many dealers sell reproduction jewelry. As long as the piece is noted as a reproduction, this is acceptable and ethical. Occasionally, Caroline's Jewelry will have a few reproductions and they will be noted as such; however,  sometimes a piece of jewelry can be incorrectly identified by even the most educated of jewelers as an antique or authentic period piece when it is not. Caroline's Jewelry makes every effort to correctly identify pieces as to their true age. (Please see "Disclaimer" Page) When buying a piece of estate, period or antique jewelry, always ask what the age is and ask that the information be added to the bill of sales. Caroline's Jewelry will always show the estimated date of manufacture on invoices. JEWELRY PERIODS

We also make our best estimate of carat weight and size for all stones; however, mounted jewelry is difficult to assess and slight differences are expected. We will give you any information as to repairs or alterations (which are very common with antique jewelry) that are available to us.
